Yes, I think that Margate Rocks is important for Margate - it is essential that enough high-quality events lasting more than one day should be presented throughout the year to generate the visitor traffic which would make it possible for businesses, particularly in Margate Old Town, to survive.
I think that Jessica Baum is a very strong candidate as Director - it is essential that this year's event should be well run, not like the under-financed and utterly ineffective Margate Rocks Mark I.
If events like Margate Rocks are not organised, the town will die as a tourist attraction (if it hasn't already - I suspect the 2008 season will be very bad), which will make the task of the Turner Contemporary almost impossible - this cannot work if it's the ONLY show in town.

I think every effort should be made to run Margate Rocks well at a size commensurate with the available funding (always assuming that Jessica does not feel her original concept is being bastardised) - in terms of getting visitors to come to Margate, it's now or never!

Just a quick post to make sure that the uploads are all working and that Margate Rocks is still on track...

No news of Margate Rocks - is it fated not to happen? Does this mean that, after paying for a glitzy conference, Thanet District Council has reverted to its usual "head in the sand" mode?

I learned yesterday 7th April that this event will go ahead. Three cheers for that!
